Dawn Cason
Songstress, Piano Player, and Talent Nurturer
I bounced to the beat before I could walk, so I guess you could say
I did not choose music; music chose me. ~Dawn Cason
Dawn was only eight months old when her mother found her keeping time with the Christmas music playing on the stereo. Later there would be piano lessons, church music programs, and the school chorus. Her middle and high school choral teachers encouraged her to pursue music, while her senior English teacher, urged her to look toward the theatre. She did both, earning a vocal scholarship to NKU and performing in musicals with the theatre department. “I was fortunate to be able to study with some of the finest music and theatre professionals in the region and experience a variety of performance venues and literature.”
Following graduation, Dawn took a detour away from music, but stints as a travel agent and human resources assistant left her feeling very unfulfilled. “I knew I had to get back to the music, but I didn’t know what that meant.” Two months after leaving her human resources position with Shire US, a pharmaceutical company, the music found her when she received a call from a nearby church needing a pianist. It was just what Dawn needed to put her on a new path. “So many people began asking me if I gave lessons that I saw it as a sign and opened my teaching studio seven months later.”
Dawn has been teaching for more than ten years and currently teaches voice and piano at her home studio in
La Grange; she is also the Music Director/Accompanist at Woodhaven Baptist Church in Burlington.
“I love sharing music with people of all ages, and especially enjoy working with children and teenages, helping them to realize their potential and reach their goals. Hearing a young voice develop beyond what we imagined or sharing in a student’s excitement when they perform for the first time, win an audition, understand a new concept, or grow in their self-confidence is thrilling!”

What was your first college theatre role?
I played the Choir Mistress in The Grass Harp. I didn’t sing and had to speak with a lisp.
What would be impossible for you to give up?
My car. I like the freedom and independence it provides.
Scary movies or happy endings?
I’m a sucker for romantic comedies and happy endings.
Favorite animal?
I love cats, both domestic and jungle varieties. They’re extremely intelligent, inquisitive, have distinct personalities, and they’re entertaining to watch. I envy their flexibility.
What most excites you about your work & the contribution you can make?
I love to help other people see their potential and reach their dreams.
